About Us

Ears4music was founded by Laurie Blundell and Laura Anstee in Barnes SW13 in 2009. They are keen to share their passion for all types of music from classical to Jazz and World music with their pupils and delighted to nuture them through the stages of expereincing, listening to and making music through their lessons.

LauraLaura completed her musical training at the Royal Academy of Music in 2002 where she received a 1st in her BMus degree, an LRAM teaching qualification and a Dip.RAM. Whilst studying cello under Mats Lidström and Philip Sheppard she was awarded the Herbert Walenn prize, Douglas Cameron prize, McEwen prize and Gwyneth George prize and in the summer of 2014 she was invited  back to the Royal Academy to become an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.

To date she has collaborated with composers such as György Kurtág, Arvo Pärt and Judith Weir and has worked in many ensembles including BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert orchestra and on the West End show Les Miserables. She has performed at many international festivals as cellist with dance companies including shows with renowned French ballet dancer Sylvie Guillem, the Hofesh Shechter Company, Akram Khan Company and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Laura also continues to perform as a multi-instrumentalist in live performance alongside silent films.

In the session world Laura has performed with and recorded for many artists most notably Beyonce, JayZ, David Gilmour, Bjork, Paloma Faith, Florence and the Machine, Paul McCartney, Noel Gallagher, Roger Daltrey, Brian May, Ray Davies and Kanye West. She has a particular interest in World music genres and has been a member of She Koyokh Klezmer Ensemble and Rhythms of the City Bateria.

LaurieLaurie Blundell is a pianist, improvisor and composer. He studied at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and holds an honours degree in Piano Performance from Trinity College of Music where he also trained in the Kodály Choral Method as a conductor and teacher. He currently lectures at City University where he co-wrote the syllabus for the Musicianship module and works at The Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he teaches Piano, Choral Conducting and Musical Awareness. He has also taught at the Dartington International Summer School.

He works on the Dance Science Course at Roehampton University where he improvises and composes for classes and Choreographers. He has a wide knowledge of Classical and Jazz Harmony and has travelled worldwide to Cuba, West Africa, Mexico and Brazil studying the rhythmic traditions.

Laurie studied with Douglas Finch, the late Yonty Solomon and the late John Binhgam. Laurie received a scholarship to study with the internationally recognised Nelly Ben-Or as a pianist and Alexander Technique teacher. He now has two young children and lives on no sleep.
